Does the institution offer at least one sustainability-focused major, degree, or certificate program for undergraduate students?:
Yes

Name of the sustainability-focused undergraduate degree program:
BSc. Environmental Science

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:

Environmental Science examines the physical, chemical, and biological components of the Earth’s environment, its diverse systems, and the complex ways in which they interact. Environmental scientists use a variety of scientific and analytical techniques to measure environmental parameters, to evaluate the state of environmental systems, and to project the changes in environmental systems as a result of human activities and climate change. Natural and physical systems behavior is key to evaluating the implications of human activities such as agriculture, industry, and resource extraction, processing, and use. Environmental problems such as contamination and pollution, global warming, and biodiversity loss are studied with regard to past, present, and future practices and solutions.

BSc. Environmental Studies

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (2nd program):

Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on the social, institutional, political and legal aspects surrounding environmental issues and concerns. Students in environmental studies explore environmental issues relating to human populations, sustainable resource development, pollution and conservation, environmental health and endangerment and preservation of species. Students work to understand alternative conditions that have the potential to reverse current environmental trends and contribute to ecological sustainability.

BSc. Agroecology

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (3rd program):

The Agroecology program includes teachings on the management and conservation of the world’s natural and agricultural resources. Students learn the many ways agroecologists help protect the environment, from developing environmentally friendly weed, insect and disease controls, to educating and assisting farmers in land and soil conservation, to protecting Canada’s wildlife and water supply. Agroecology studies focus on the biological and physical components of ecosystems, and how to achieve economically sustainable agricultural production while conserving resources and maintaining the integrity of ecosystems.

Your studies will focus on the biological and physical components of ecosystems, and how we can achieve economically sustainable agricultural production while conserving resources and maintaining the integrity of our ecosystems.

Does the institution offer one or more sustainability-focused minors or concentrations for undergraduate students?:
Yes

Name of the sustainability-focused undergraduate minor or concentration:
Environmental Engineering

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration:

Research in Environmental Engineering encompasses three areas: water treatment, wastewater treatment and solid waste disposal and management. The work serves the vibrant communities in the Prairies with special challenges of advanced nutrient removal from water and wastewater; cold climate issues; water and wastewater treatment in remote locations; landfill bioreactor issues. Examples include: particle analysis in water and wastewater; floc properties in dissolved air flotation; biological nutrient removal from wastewater and sludge liquor; novel biofilm membrane processes; biosolids processing and disinfection; anaerobic treatment processes; animal residue treatment; fermentation to generate carbon for biological phosphorus removal; clogging of leachate collecting pipes; and bioreactor landfills.
