A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
Residence Advisors (RAs) are responsible for promoting sustainable lifestyle choices in the residence and ensuring students are complying with sustainability initiatives in residence. They are responsible for hanging and maintaining signage on using the correct waste/recycling bins and kitchen practices and distributing information on and promoting participation in e-waste collection or clothing donation campaigns.
A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (1st program):
All Residence Advisors are required to complete sustainability training during their orientation before the start of the Fall semester. Presentation slides are available to Resident Advisors on their training platform for the referral, and a presentation is delivered to them on behalf of the Office of Sustainability. Information is then shared to all residents during orientation weeks, and residence programs throughout the year (bulletin boards on each floor, active events in residence, community kitchen programs).

Peers: Students Helping Students provides an approachable and confidential resource for all University of Manitoba students. Peers trained volunteers speak with students about adjusting to term changes as a result of the pandemic and help them understand changes that were made to the term, be a non-judgmental, listening ear, share relevant stories and advice based on their personal student experiences, show you how to meet new people and get involved on campus. The program aims to support high-quality education through offering good health and mental wellbeing support to students The program consists of student volunteers who receive intensive training to be supportive listeners, skilled communicators, and campus connectors.
A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (2nd program):
Students interested in becoming Peers volunteers submit applications to the Peers: Students Helping Students Center or the University of Manitoba Students’ Union. Every year 20-35 volunteers are selected from the applicants based on the contents of their resume, their availability to commit a minimum of 6 hours per week, and their previous related experience.

The Sustainability Ambassador Program is a volunteer leadership program for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in promoting a culture of sustainability at UM through growth, education, research, and action. As a Sustainability Ambassador, students will lead and inspire the campus community to learn more about sustainability and explore how sustainability practices can change lives in a positive way.
A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (3rd program):
The volunteer projects and opportunities that Sustainability Ambassadors have are either focused on strengthening their own sustainability skills or helping improve sustainability on campus – or both! Some examples of volunteer projects include the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Working Group, working with the Sustainability in Action Facility (SiAF), helping conduct outdoor or indoor waste audits, and supporting various tabling events on campus to help increase staff, faculty and student awareness of and engagement in sustainability issues and resources.
Sustainability Ambassadors receive a Co-Curricular Record Credit from the UM when they complete the minimum 10 volunteer hours.
