The Green Committee works with the Student Government Energy & Conservation Organization in order to carry out sustainable initiatives on the University of Miami campus. The committee is highly involved in being the face of sustainability on campus by hosting events, supporting other sustainable organizations, educating student peers, and creating an environment where green ideas are celebrated, expanded on and then put into action.
How it operates: The Green Committee is co-sponsored by ECO and Green U and works by encouraging its participants to foster long term sustainability habits. This is done through positive reinforcements and excitement for these habits.

A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
The students are trained by ECO student leaders and Office of Sustainability staff to conduct energy saving training, water conservation outreach, recycling, reuse, and public interest initiatives. They facilitate education, contests, and help increase sustainability presence on campus.
A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or faculty/staff coordination):
The Student Government ECO Agency has a weekly meeting with the committee and helps financially with certain educational campaigns (signage, communication material).

Green Patrols are volunteers in charge of promoting waste diversion programs by department. They survey, monitor and enhance our recycling programs Single Stream, Cartridges...) and reach out to students to spread sustainable behavior. A specific group of the Green Patrols collect buckets of ground coffee from the different coffee shops and dinning locations on campus using identifiable tricycles and answer questions about sustainable waste diversion.

Students are selected by the Sustainability Manager through UM Student media outlets.

Training is imparted by the Sustainability manager at the beginning of each semester.

This is a volunteer based program coordinated by the Office pf Sustainability. Students, part of Greek Life, can gain community standard points.
