The following programs are specifically designed for underrepresented student groups:

1. Federal Trio Program Student Support Services – Aspire and Students Support Services Disability. These are two large federal grant programs targeted at supporting the retention and graduation of students who are from first generation families, have limited income and/or have a disability. For more information, see their brochure: http://www.uwstout.edu/services/aspire/academics/loader.cfm?csModule=security/getfile&pageID=107107
2. Multicultural Student Services – provides support, programs, financial assistance to students who are identify with an American minority group. They run a Summer Bridge program called Stout ward Bound that bring student to campus two weeks early to start classes and become familiar with classes. They operate 4 one-week pre-college programs in the summer, provide support and assistance in helping student overcome barriers to success, and administer the Lawton Undergraduate Minority Retention Grant and Advanced Opportunity Grant – to name just a few programs. See their website for more information: http://www.uwstout.edu/services/multicultural/index.cfm
3.Veteran Students – We have a Veteran’s Council that meets regularly to continually assess the needs of veteran students. We have an MOU with the Minneapolis VA to provide access to health care. There is support in the Counseling Center and Disability Services, financial benefit support in the Registrar’s office, and an active Veteran Student Organization. We will survey Veteran students this spring to learn more about their needs. This fall we held the first Veteran’s Fair inviting all enrolled veterans and their families to become familiar with available services and the staff who provide them. See http://www.uwstout.edu/veterans/
4. McNair Scholars Program: A federally funded Department of Education TRIO program. Funds are awarded to institutions of higher education to prepare eligible participants for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. See website: http://www.uwstout.edu/mcnair/index.cfm
5. The Qube/LGBTQ Coordinator: A resource hub and coordinator for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Questioning (LGBTQ) students and allies at UW-Stout.
