Frequently Asked Questions

How has this credit changed from STARS 2.1 to 2.2?

This credit was updated to allow for full or partial points. Institutions earn full points by earning the highest achievable level in Campus Pride Index or an equivalent program. Partial points are available for institutions scoring 4 or 4.5 Stars in Campus Pride Index.

Example Responses

  • Cal Poly Humboldt – Achieved 4.5 Stars in Campus Pride Index and earning partial points. Uses “Additional documentation” field to include a guide on LGBTQ resources for students.
  • Portland State University – Detailed array of campus pride initiatives offered, and references an All Gender Restroom Policy. Achieved 5 Stars in Campus Pride Index and earning full points.
  • University of Sydney – Good example of a non-US university receiving full points for LGBTQ+ friendly recognition outside of Campus Pride Index.

Common Issues Identified During Review

  • To count, institutions must currently be rated at above mid-level by the Campus Pride Index or an equivalent third party recognition program for LGBTQ+ friendly practices approved by AASHE. Documentation affirming the certification is required.
