Materials Management Recognition (3.0)

This is an optional Innovation & Leadership (IL) credit. IL credits recognize institutions that are seeking innovative solutions to sustainability challenges and demonstrating sustainability leadership in ways that are not otherwise captured in STARS. Scoring in the Innovation and Leadership section is capped at 10 bonus points total.

Suggestions for Institutions

  • Work with your institution’s materials management team(s) to determine if an assessment has been conducted with a published score card, recognition has been achieved, and/or to consider pursuing one or both options.

Potential Data Quality Issues

  • Documentation must be provided on formal leadership in materials management or waste recovery by a national or international assessment or awards program. 
  • If earning the full 1 bonus point, there must be evidence of participation in Atlas Zero Waste Stage 1 Assessment, a Campus Race to Zero Waste certification or award, and/or an AASHE approved equivalent.
