SCARAB (Scholarly Communication and Research at Bates) is the institutional repository for scholarly and creative works produced by faculty, students and staff. SCARAB has a dual role in both promoting access to the college's scholarly output and ensuring its long-term preservation. The repository is sponsored and administered by Information and Library Services. Resources are open to the public.

OER include full courses, course materials, modules, textbooks, streaming videos, tests, software, and any other tools, materials, or techniques used to support access to knowledge

The office of Sponsored Programs and Research Compliance is works with faculty on APC funding. APC coverage is a consideration when allocating grant funding.
