A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:

The Office of Sustainability conducted a survey of research by sending approximately 60 targeted letters to researchers that we had included in past STARS reporting and potential new researchers who might fit the criteria. Each letter included the College's definition of sustainability and examples of research topics that might fit under a sustainability umbrella. We then sent a more generic email to the all faculty to capture any additional individuals that might be doing research in this area. Full and continuing part-time faculty with research responsibilities (i.e. Assistant, Associate or Full Professor and Visiting Assistant Professors) were included in the total count of FTE. We also include the Arboretum Director, Arboretum Curator and Arboretum Horticulturalists because of their role in research on the College Arboretum. Only academic departments and academic programs with faculty FTE (31 academic departments and 1 interdisciplinary program) and the arboretum were included in this assessment - several other interdisciplinary programs have no dedicated FTE.
