A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):

The Sustainable Workplace Certification program challenges staff and students throughout the University to foster healthier, more environmentally friendly, and connected workplaces through individual and collective practices. Each office designates one individual as the team lead and Sustainable Workplace Ambassador. This person attends a mandatory training session as a requirement of participating in the program. Ambassadors are also invited to join the Sustainable Workplace Ambassadors Teams group, where participants share tips and ask questions about sustainability best practices.

The "ongoing" nature of the program lies in the gradual improvement of the the office workplace certification, from Bronze, to Silver, to Gold, etc. Workplace Ambassadors are expected to continually push for sustainability improvements as they move their offices up to higher ratings.

The training program itself is also ongoing, in that it receives regular administrative support through staff and interns. Workplace Ambassadors typically stay part of the sustainability community, receiving regular newsletters, participating in Organizational Development workshops, and attending other sustainability-focused events.

Note about number of employees served by Sustainable Workplace Program:
All employees, regular and casual, full-time and part-time, are eligible to engage with the program, including student employees. Excluded are clinical staff that work at the McGill-affiliated hospitals, since they are outside the operational boundary described in PRE-3.

The number of trained employee educators include those who registered in the program between March 2021 to present (August 2023 at the time of writing).

Total hours calculated as follows: 120 ambassadors x 48 weeks x 0.25/week = 1440) + 48 hours (number of hours annually that the MOOS staff member spends overseeing the program) = 1488. Assumes an average of 4 weeks vacation for each employee.
