Green Meeting Planning: MTGP 9053.
Learn about the business case -ROI- of green meetings and how to increase your value as a planner to your organization. This course describes how to use industry guidelines in your meetings/events to benefit both your economic and environmental bottom lines. This session will provide key skills for creating sustainable food and beverage for your events as well as resources to assist you; eco-labels, marketing strategies and ways to avoid "green washing"; how to engage your attendees, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors with your green practices and finding the right location for an event by asking the right questions and learning about criteria for choosing a green destination (elective course).
GIS for Sustainable Planning and Urban Design: GEOG 9033. The course covers cartographic and analytic techniques in GIS to assist sustainable planning and urban design. The course begins with an intensive review of data resources and cartographic techniques for effective existing conditions maps. The remainder focuses on spatial analysis techniques to assist in sustainable planning and urban design. Topics include: (a) use of Network Analyst for generating walksheds and evaluating walkability (b) using GIS to calculate indicators of smart growth and complete streets for Transit Oriented Development (TOD); (c) smart growth; land-use scenario planning analysis; and (d) use of 3D Analyst for building 3D models, flythroughs, and form based planning.
