Over the past three years, 0.41% of non-academic staff have participated in sustainability-related professional development.
FY20
The Sustainability Specialist hosted a sustainability workshop. This workshop was open to all faculty, staff, and students and spoke about SDSU sustainability efforts as well as how each person can make their life more sustainable.
FY21 and FY22
Sustainability Ambassadors is a 5-week program that takes a deep dive into sustainability concepts enriching participants understanding and empowering them to share and practice what they learn. Each 1-hour session consists of a presentation with room for engaging activities and meaningful dialogue. Session topics included: definitions of sustainability, social equity, climate change, transportation, energy, and waste. The goal of the program is to integrate sustainability into different aspects of campus.
To reach this goal, the program will.
1. Educate more campus members about sustainability and give them a solid understanding of sustainability & related concepts.
2. Help campus members see how they connect and contribute to sustainability both at a personal level and in their campus role.
3. Encourage sustainability ambassadors to share the knowledge they learn in these sessions with their friends, colleagues, departments, etc. to help grow sustainability knowledge and help people see the importance of sustainability and how they play a role.
4. Empower sustainability ambassadors to integrate sustainability into what they do, both personally, but especially in their role on campus.
This program is open to all faculty, staff, and students. Participants had to attend 4 out of 5 sessions to become a Sustainability Ambassador. Participants who completed the program received a bumper sticker and digital form of the logo to share on email, social media, etc. The Sustainability Specialist also has a list of official Sustainability Ambassadors.
FY22
The Sustainability Specialist provided recycling updates to all secretaries on campus via email. The secretaries were then asked to share this recycling information to their department staff. A presentation was also given that secretaries were invited to attend.
