A brief description of notable policies or programs to make the institution accessible and affordable to low-income students:

US Friends (housed in he International Affairs Office) collects donated items from the community and gives it to people in need including students.
TRIO Student Support Services is designed to provide a supportive community for students in transition to college. Our enthusiastic staff provide various support services to promote each participant`s personal, academic and professional achievement. These supports include advising, academic resources, peer mentoring, career planning and involvement opportunities. The TRIO SSS program added an additional line item into their grant proposal to provide scholarships for students. TRiO/Upward Bound was able to provide emergency grant aid to TRIO SSS students who were deemed low income and needed assistance due to COVID.
SDSU partnered with the South Dakota to implement the South Dakota Freedom Scholarship, awarding $1.6M in scholarships for students with financial need.
Jack`s cupboard provides food assistance for students who are experiencing both short and long term food insecurity.

In 2020 the SDSU Foundation fundraised to create an emergency grant fund that students can apply for to help meet emergency expenses including housing and food costs

The American Indian Student Center has financial scholarships and resources for emergency funding.

The Wokini Scholarships are available for tribally enrolled citizens from the 9 SD tribal nations.

Part time students have the same access to student resources as full time students. There are also advisors at various off campus SDSU locations.
