All SF and SI courses are catalogued in a running inventory maintained by the Office of Sustainability. Those courses are approved and then tagged by the Provost's office. The Office of Sustainability then runs reports to see how many of those courses were offered in a given academic year. Each term a course is offered it is considered a unique offering. The total number of SF/SI undergraduate and graduate courses offered per term per academic year is provided in summary in the course inventory.
We are provided with the total number of graduate and undergraduate courses offered each academic term via a data request from our Institutional Research and Assessment unit.
The "total departments" figure is derived from the total number of unique course subject codes for both undergraduate and graduate courses offered for academic years: 21, 22, 23 for all terms (Summer II, Fall, Spring, Summer 1).

Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings per session or terms. The course was counted for each term (Summer II, Fall, Spring, Summer 1) it was offered throughout the academic year.
For example, if a sustainability-focused undergraduate course is offered each term (Summer II, Fall, Spring, Summer 1) every year (FY21, FY22, FY23) it would be reflected in the total number of courses (317) 12 times.

The inventory provided is reflective of all the courses designated as either sustainability focused or sustainability inclusive at the graduate and undergraduate levels over the course of the reporting window.
Some and not all courses are offered every term or year and there may be courses that were only offered once during the 3-year reporting window. Because we are reporting for 3 academic years and 4 terms, there may be a discrepancy between the number of total offerings of unique SF and SI courses and the course count for the reporting window (4 terms of 3 academic years). Note that in the summary of the inventory, you can see that the total number of offerings per each term, per category, never exceeds the total number of sustainability course offerings. The total number of unique offerings per category are reported in the summary tab of the inventory.
