In 2017 University of Cincinnati Press and Cincinnati Library Publishing Services launched as a new platform for open access content, using an app called Manifold. The University of Cincinnati Press offers many titles free to all readers to shrink the distance between the author and the reader.: https://ucincinnatipress.manifoldapp.org/
In addition, the Scholar@UC is a digital repository that enables the University of Cincinnati community to share its research and scholarly work with a worldwide audience. Faculty and staff can use Scholar@UC to collect their work in one location and create a durable and citeable record of their papers, presentations, publications, datasets, or other scholarly creations. Students, through an approved process, may contribute capstone projects such as senior design projects, theses, and dissertations.
The mission of Scholar@UC is to preserve the permanent intellectual output of UC, to advance discovery and innovation, to foster scholarship and learning through the transformation of data into knowledge, to collect a corpus of works that can be used for teaching and to inspire derivative works, and to enhance discoverability and access to these resources.
Scholar@UC is an open source, agile development project supported in partnership by the University of Cincinnati Libraries and IT@UC. Our source code repository is found on github.com in two places: our application code and a Ruby on Rails engine. Our application is built on top of Samvera, a repository framework used by institutions worldwide to provide access to their digital content, and an open source community to facilitate shared software development.
The development of Scholar@UC is aided by a group of early adopters who help to prioritize new developments.
Finally, there is the Ohio Digital Resource Commons (DRC), an initiative of OhioLINK and its member libraries. The DRC is a service that collects, preserves, and distributes digital material. Repositories are important tools for preserving an organization's legacy and for providing access to unique collections; they facilitate digital preservation and scholarly communication.
The Ohio Digital Resource Commons is a network of centrally hosted repositories that enables institutions to save, discover and share, free of charge, the instructional, research, historic and creative materials produced by the University System of Ohio and Ohio's liberal arts colleges.

In late 2019 and early 2020, the University of Cincinnati (UC) participated in a statewide pilot program to test the demand from faculty for an APC support fund. In that initial pilot, a total of $23,490 of APC funds were awarded for scholarship across multiple disciplines (CECH-Human Services, CECH-Information Technology, Medicine-Pediatrics, Nursing Research (PhD student), Medicine-Otolaryngology, Medicine-Pediatric-Pharmacology, A&S-Political Science, and Medicine–Psychiatry & Behavioral Neuroscience). Those awards were made within less than two months of launching the pilot program--demonstrating demand that outstripped the available funds.
In response, in 2021, the Provost's Office provided a three-year grant to UC's University Press and Scholarly Communications department to launch a new Leading the Open Agenda initiative. In AY21-22, the program developed a workflow for publishing both textbooks and journal articles in open access, acquired an authoring tool for OA development, and funded close to 20 OA journal articles, for authors across multiple colleges and departments: https://libraries.uc.edu/research-teaching-support//scopenaccess/recipients.html#apcgrant

In addition, UC is providing Open Educational Resource grants: Textbook Transformation Innovator Grants of between $1,200-$4,000 to support the modification or creation of new open educational resources; available to full-time faculty at any University of Cincinnati campus; and Textbook Transformation Adoption Grants of $200, available to faculty who replace an existing textbook with an Open Educational Resource (OER) or low-cost set of learning materials without modification.

Journals@UC is a platform for journal publishing using Open Journal Systems (OJS) software. OJS provides management tools that support and help to automate the publishing process for journals. Journals@UC can also provide long-term storage and online access to published journal content.
Online, open access journals are encouraged, but not required for participation. This service is provided by the University of Cincinnati Libraries and UC Information Technology. At least two OA journals are supported through this service: the Journal for Research and Practice in College Teaching, and the Focus on German Studies.
