A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:

A combination of city and regional transportation modeling data, internal UC data (e.g. student and staff records), has been used in the previous decade to estimate commuting patterns and associated GHG emissions.
In fall 2021, UC instituted a regular survey of sustainability, attitudes and behaviors to all UC students, staff and faculty. The Office of Sustainability worked with a faculty effort in surveying to ensure a representative sample was obtained. The commuting data reported above is based on the results of that survey.
