A brief description of the institution’s efforts to support alternative fuel and power technology in its motorized fleet:
The first year that the total number of vehicles in the owned and leased fleet was determined was 2020. At the time of this STARS submission, USC has not completed a full inventory of its vehicle fleet that classifies vehicles using the same categories outlined in this credit. For this credit, USC defaulted to classifying vehicles as gasoline-only vehicles where classification was unknown. Therefore, this submission is a conservative estimate of the number of fleet vehicles that are diesel-only or 100% electric.
The number of biofuel buses reflect data from October 2023 as these data are under the direct control of USC Transportation.
Processes are currently underway to complete a full inventory of the campus fleet, as well as to electrify USC’s fleet (with infrastructure being the first step to ensure that purchased electric vehicles are able to be charged in efficient manners). The current goal is to electrify all of USC’s fleet by 2028.
