A brief description of how multiple stakeholder groups were involved in developing the plan:
In 2008, a committee formed of representatives from academic and operational administration, and faculty and staff from each department (math and science, humanities, social sciences, nursing, and business, occupational, and technical studies) worked together over a four month period to formulate a sustainability plan for the institution. Since that initial document was prepared, two revisions have been made, both with a diverse group of readers and participants within the college's sustainability committee.

Number of credit and noncredit courses related to sustainability offered per term.
Number of sustainability-related degree plans and green career pathways offered.
Number of business and industry students served in green tech, lean manufacturing, renewable energy, or other sustainability-related fields.
Number of instructors self-reporting incorporation of sustainability into curriculum.
Number of instructors and club sponsors self-reporting sustainability-related events.
Incorporation of sustainability-related principles into student learning outcomes
Professional development:
Number of faculty and staff attending sustainability-related professional development
Number of on-campus professional development opportunities offered
Number of service and/or green-collar opportunities afforded to students

Reduction in solid waste

Until beginning the STARS process, progress was measured anecdotally and reported to the KCTCS Board of Directors twice a year. Joining STARS will be our primary vehicle for benchmarking and progress evaluation.
