<p><span>Each campus of Indiana Univeristy has its own Climate Action Plan Implementation Committee (CAPIC) with representation from students, faculty, and staff.&nbsp;</span><span>Members are appointed by local campus leadership, such as the provost and chancellors. Each committee develops recommendations to implement the strategies approved in the IU Climate Action Plan.</span></p>
<p>The CAPICs follow the guiding principles outlined in the IU Climate Action Plan:</p>
<ul>
<li>Evidence-based and rigorous.</li>
<li>Action-oriented, with immediate implementation whenever possible.</li>
<li>Financially responsible.</li>
<li>Resourceful and efficient, with funding sources and savings identified.</li>
<li>Inclusive and just, with broad input.</li>
<li>Accountable, with benchmarks and dashboards part of the transparency of process and progress.</li>
<li>Ambitious and transformative.</li>
</ul>
<p>CAPICs also identify projects that create opportunities for student learning. The projects provide meaningful, real-world applications of sustainability and sustainability-adjacent principles by utilizing the campus as a living laboratory of sustainability.</p>

<p>The IU Office of Sustainability seeks to identify and promote sustainable solutions that reduce environmental impacts while supporting an equitable and prosperous IU, now and into the future.</p>

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:

<p>Effective with the approval of the IU Climate Action Plan, the IU Office of Sustainability is a centralized unit that provides sustainability leadership, support, and standardization across all campuses of Indiana University.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The activities of the office within the academic and operations spheres of the university convene topic-area-focused stakeholders and develop ideas for improvement, investigation, and sustainability progress throughout the years. The office has provided internship experience for students, has engaged large numbers of university affiliates via campus programming, and provided funding and recognition for campus research and operations projects. Much of this is through a range of programs including: Campus Catalyst Awards, Sustainability Research Development Grants, Sustainable Events Events, Sustainability Internship program, and more; Prominent events including support of ERI Bootcamp, hosting the IU Sustainability Symposium, Earth Month, and more; Institution-wide sustainability reporting, increasing collaboration across our statewide network of nine IU campuses, sustainability conference participation/presentations, and focused work in GHG emissions reductions also make up efforts of the office.</p>
