A brief description of the institution’s green event certification program:

Macalester regularly hosts Zero Waste events with signage and information, this includes commencement and orientation.

National faculty and staff searches occur by teleconferencing before in-person interviews to reduce carbon emissions.

Sustainable transportation options, teleconferencing options, and/or carbon offsets:
Macalester subscribes to a streaming service to allow virtual attendance at events like Commencement and First Thursday.

Catering: Bon Appetit offers vegetarian/vegan options and accommodates for other dietary needs (gluten-free, Kosher, etc.) and uses exclusively compostable silverware and dishware. Even if the student event is not catered by them, students can still order compostable dishware, the costs of which will be paid for by the Macalester College Student Government(MCSG).

Paper consumption: Macalester uses certified compostable paper.

Waste minimization and diversion: Composting, Recycling, and waste are available, with the ability to request for more bins than are available in event spaces.

Communications and/or signage about the sustainable practices: Banners signify a zero-waste event, and all bins show composting, recycling, and waste information respectively.
