A brief description of the institution’s community garden:

The MULCH(Macalester Urban land and Community Health) Garden is a student community garden. The garden is most active in the spring in preparation for the summer; with seeding starting in Macalester's greenhouse. The MULCH is used by The Sustainability Office student staff and members of the student organization called Green@Mac to educate the campus and the broader community about urban agriculture, food and environmental justice, as well as the pleasant intimacy of sharing resources. The garden is open to use for all members of the macalester community and surrounding community. It is maintained over the summer by Macalester Sustainability Office student staff and student, staff and community volunteers. Community members are invited to come and harvest produce from the garden. In addition, there are several additional community gardens on campus. Two small garden plots behind the sustainability office which are also open to community use, and a new three sisters garden is in development. The three sisters garden is being designed by (and will serve as a space for) native students, staff, faculty and alumni.
