A brief description of the practice of including community service on transcripts, if applicable:

Michigan State University handles this in three ways:
- All academic departments submit courses for approval through the academic governance process. Courses which consistently require and incorporate service-learning, community and/or civic engagement are approved through academic governance. The course description includes the service-learning requirement. Thus all sections taught, for example, of Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures (WRA) 135: Public Life in America: The Service-Learning Writing Project reflect community involvement. The listing of the course by name on the transcript denotes service-learning.
- The Graduate Certificate Program in Community Engagement is credentialed separately on the official transcript.
- The MSU Center for Service-Learning and Civic Engagement (CSLCE) keeps the Official Record of Service for all students. Academic/course imbedded, curricular service-learning and co-curricular service, service-learning and community engagement are tracked, verified and credentialed through the CSLCE.

Does the institution provide incentives for employees to participate in community service (on- or off-campus)?:
