Timeframe: Real-time data from 4/26/2018
Methodology: At this time, Princeton University does not conduct an annual commute survey. Data underpinning this analysis was pulled on 4/26/ 2018 from the Transportation and Parking Service’s internal database run by T2 management software, which is updated daily. Counts for employees commuting by way of walking, biking, vanpooling, carpooling, and taking public transit was derived using real-time enrollment rates in the university’s employee commute benefits program – Revise Your Ride (see Q9).
We consider the Revise Your Ride enrollment to be a viable representation of employee commuting modal split, as participants are not allowed to have campus parking permits. However, we acknowledge that there may be employees that use lower-carbon transportation for their primary commute mode that have not joined the employee commute benefits program. Motorcycle and scooter counts were derived from the total number of active motorcycle permits issues to campus employees in 2018.
Scope: Only benefits-eligible employees were included in this analysis, based on data availability. The University commute benefits programs are only open to benefits-eligible staff and we acknowledge that these percentages do not account for hourly staff or 3rd party affiliates that also commute to campus, abet on a less consistent basis. This analysis also does not include graduate students that may be employed by the university.
