The goal of The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) is to enable and empower students to take an active role in making UCLA a leader in sustainability. TGIF supports and provides much needed funding for projects that promote the mission of UCLA sustainability, which is to create a culture in which the entire UCLA community is aware of, engaged in, and committed to advancing sustainability. Roughly, $200,000 per year is available for student-initiated sustainability projects on campus. TGIF is funded by a $4.80 per quarter student fee in perpetuity.
A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:
The TGIF Committee is chaired by the Undergraduate Students Association Council (USAC) Facilities Commissioner and includes cross representation of students, faculty and staff. Projects are selected for funding by an annually appointed Grant Making Committee in which students have the majority vote.
