A brief description of the institution’s efforts to support alternative fuel and power technology in its motorized fleet:

UCLA Transportation aims to reduce fleet greenhouse gas emissions by targeting vehicle type, vehicle fuel, and vehicle miles traveled. The campus operates a centralized fleet management system allowing it to aggressively purchase BEV and PHEV vehicles, except in limited classifications (small cargo van, full-bed pickup trucks, police pursuit vehicles, and fire apparatus) where they don’t exist.

The listing of the above data on vehicles using alternative fuel and power technology avoids double-counting. UCLA's total number of hybrid vehicles is 62, with 45 gas-electric and 17 PHEV. All 23 diesel vehicles use R100 (even better than B20), so they are all counted in the “B20 or higher” category. The fuel is not locally-sourced, however.

Note for statistics in the uploaded fleet card: breakdown of fuel type applies only to the “motor vehicles;” 132 bicycles are now zeroed out, with a new collaboration with LA Metro to operate e-bikeshare on campus; and the 281 electric vehicles are made up of 232 Low-Speed (LSV) / Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEV) and 49 other motor vehicles.
