The Student Mobility Survey (SMS) provides information on the travel patterns of undergraduate and graduate students residing both on and off campus. The Fall Quarter 2022 SMS was conducted in late October, which is generally considered to be when the campus is most active and at its peak population.
Note while PRE-5 includes preK-12 enrollment, this credit is only undergraduate and graduate FTE as that aligns with the data collected on commute emissions.

In line with the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s (SCAQMD) Regulatory Rule 2202, UCLA conducted a SCAQMD Survey of employees in March 2022. The SCAQMD Survey reports on an organization’s average vehicle ridership (AVR), which signifies the ratio of people to vehicles arriving at the worksite. Generally, the higher the AVR, the fewer vehicles there are in relation to the population, which means that more employees are taking public transportation, vanpooling, carpooling, biking, walking, telecommuting, or engaging in some other sustainable commute mode or work schedule. A key question for UCLA Transportation in 2022 was – which modes absorbed the reduction in the telecommuting rate?
