Yes

UMKC Sustainability Office provides for tabling presentations at the a dozen Roos Fests held each fall when the campus holds its incoming student orientation.


Does new student orientation incorporate sustainability information into presentations (e.g., made by Residential Advisors to individual dorm floors)?:
Yes

The Green Living Guide is used by Residential Advisors in presentations to students in the individual dorm floors.


Does new student orientation actively engage students in activities that raise awareness about sustainability, highlight how sustainability plays out on campus, or allows students to take part in a productive green activity?:
Yes

Provide a brief description of the activities:

Students can participate in the Voluntary Energy Management program by participating in the interactive online pledge. Students can also participate in the Clean Commute Program and receive a loaner bicycle for the semester. Students can participate in the recycling program by recycling paper, beverage containers and compost food and compostable dinnerware at the fairs. Students can also participate in the UMKC Garden Collective and plant seeds to later plant in the on campus garden.


Does the institution make new student orientation more sustainable via efforts such as a zero-waste meal or carbon offsets?:
Yes

The new student orientations are held in the dining halls where students participate in a zero waste meal by composting and recycling all waste from their meal.

Yes

Students can also sign-up to participate in the UMKC Sustainability Team and are invited to come to monthly meetings and join sub-committees.
