A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):

Student orientation at the University of Montana includes the following activities, which taken together amount to prominent inclusion of sustainability. All of the events and activities listed below include transfer, graduate, and non-traditional students. Transfer students who are not required to attend on-campus orientation are still given the opportunity to experience UM sustainability through WelcomeFeast and the campus tours.

- Tabling at Orientation events, including during WelcomeFeast, Move-In week, the BEAR Fair, and in the University Center (student union) during orientation week. The Office of Sustainability and the ASUM Sustainability Center provide educational materials, interactive displays, and opportunities for involvement for all students participating in orientation.

- Feastival is an outdoor meal coordinated by UM Dining's Farm to College program that features locally-sourced food and an opportunity to learn more about the program. UM Dining invites the farmers and ranchers who provide the ingredients for the dinner to come speak during the meal and to meet campus members. Compost, recycling, and landfill containers are clearly labeled and prominently featured. Last year was the first year this event was a zero-waste event. The UM Dining sustainability program conducts outreach during the event as well, inviting students to explore internships, the two on-site gardens, and introducing them to the Real Food Challenge.

- Throughout Orientation week, campus sustainability tours are offered in conjunction with regular campus tours. Any student, parent, or UM affiliate is invited to join the tours which cover renewable energy projects, the campus gardens, resource recovery efforts, grounds management practices, the university's Tree Campus designation, and sustainable transportation options.
