A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
The role of student Sustainability Ambassadors, hired by the Office of Sustainability, is to provide education and outreach to the campus community.
Ambassadors are trained in general and specific-to-UO sustainability information and practices.
Examples of educational and outreach activities conducted by Sustainability Ambassadors include: educate students living on campus about the importance of returning dishware to support the reusable dishware program; staffing of waste stations at campus fairs, events and student union building initiatives to ensure proper material sorting and recycling; staff Sustainability tables and utilize informational resources and games to interact with students and additional community members at events.

The Student Sustainability Center (SSC) is a program of the Erb Memorial Union. The SSC is a collaborative space for student-led initiatives that foster and support the simultaneous pursuit of human equity, environmental vitality, and economic well-being for the present and future. The SSC trains student educators through its Leadership and Engagement Program and hires student volunteer coordinators who work on projects and events that educate the student body. Outreach activities include: informational and educational sessions on climate anxiety, environmental justice, habitat restoration, waste reduction, pollinators, and gardening; coordinating Earth Week for campus; tabling for sustainability initiatives; and educational presentations at student organization meetings. Students also organize programs that provide food security and other basic needs resources. Throughout the year, student staff and volunteers participate in ongoing training to become effective leaders. They are trained in both subject area content and in professional skills.

Student educators target students across campus, specifically those in residence halls, first-year programs, student who come from under-represented communities, and those experiencing difficulty meeting basic needs.

The Environmental Studies Program hires student workers to educate and support their peers. These students provide walk-in and online (MS Teams) guidance and basic advising. They peer-lead a team of 10 other student advisors spread across specific majors that overlap with Environmental Studies/Science--Anthropology, Geography, and Earth Sciences--for which they receive training in both peer advising and FERPA. They also produce a weekly educational newsletter that goes out to all undergraduate students in the ENVS/ESCI majors/minors, as well as any others that sign up, that shares topical news and events, as well as low-barrier support for students, and lead the production and posting of similar content on social media. Last, they give presentations about the major to incoming UO students and their parents during "Duck Days" and step in to give tours when needed.
The Eco Peers also plan and put on Environmental Connect, an annual networking event for students who are interested in environmental careers. Whether it be volunteering, internships, or job opportunities; Environmental Connects offers students the opportunity to meet with organizations, companies, and municipalities to discuss their possible futures.

The Bike Program is a comprehensive resource for students, faculty and staff that provides a free do-it-yourself maintenance workspace, classes, rentals, rides, and campus biking information. The mission is to connect students to bikes. Trained student peer educators teach bike mechanics and maintenance basics, lead group rides and cycling-focused trips, and other bike-related educational opportunities.
