A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory (including the types of faculty and staff included as researchers):

Research inventory was completed based on the self-reporting of professors and staff involved in research on EMU's campus. Many projects are ongoing over many years, and involve the assistance of undergraduates, graduates, and community members. In addition, some projects are interdisciplinary and require collaboration across departments; for example, the Bergton Agricultural Stream Restoration project involves students and professors from the Biology department (benthic macro invertebrate sampling and wood turtle surveys), Chemistry department (water quality analysis), and Peacebuilding/Social Sciences (interviews and data compiled about social impacts of and local community relationships with the stream). Any faculty member that self reported themselves as involved in a research project was included in the count.
