Madisonville Community College developed a Sustainability Plan that was approved by KCTCS Board of Regents. MCC's Sustainability Plan is as follows: 2014- Inventory number of courses already sustainability related
• Develop ways to include more sustainability subjects in various courses.
• 2018- Continue to add more components to courses to make at least 25% sustainability-related.

-Establishing an electronic newsletter “Don’t Print This…”
- Duplicate materials for events i.e. Green Smack Down, Plant Swap, 10th Day Recycling, Earth Day, Arbor Day, any other sustainability events
-Presidents Newsletter- include any sustainability initiatives at MCC
-Continue to hosts various sustainability events on campus to bring awareness to campus and the community.

Baptist Health of Madisonville to continue to engage the campus and community in sustainability through collaboration. Public Engagement also comes from student groups that provide community service. Various Student organizations volunteer within the community (SGA, Phi Theta Kappa , Lion’s Club, etc.) MCC is actively involved in the community to promote sustainability. Sustainability Coordinator and Sustainability Committee along with other volunteers from campus and within the community will be responsible for implementing these initiatives.
A brief description of the plan(s) to advance sustainability in Air and Climate:
Madisonville Community College (MCC) employed Myers/Jolly Architects from Lexington Kentucky to revise the campus master plan for presentation to the KCTCS Board of Regents in fiscal year 2012. Their charge was to produce a strategic plan for the next 30+ years which would make MCC competitive and sustainable. This plan calls for the demolition of the John H Gray (JHG) building due to its age, condition and energy efficiency. A postsecondary education center and two smaller administrative and classroom buildings would be constructed to facilitated the demolition and to improve the sustainability of the campus. With this move, a center core of the campus would provide green space to camouflage a massive geothermal well field capable of converting all buildings over to geothermal heating and cooling. At this time, the wind turbines and solar panels would be expanded to enhance reduced electrical consumption as well as afford additional instructional opportunities in alternative energies. The geothermal field would also facilitate an expanded hydroponic curriculum made possible by a recent grant to integrate curriculum from various programs to maintain and operate a hydroponic green house.

To plant low to no maintenance ground cover in various areas on campus to reduce time, money, and pollution put into the air from mowing. We will research to find which ground covers are best suitable for the climate and either use plants, rocks, or mulch for designated areas.

The measurable objective will be for us to cover a certain percentage of ground with low maintenance ground cover (example 25%), Once this goal has been reached we can determin the percentage of time and energy saved by laying down a low to no maintenance ground cover.

Madisonville Community College follows procedures put in place by KCTCS when purchasing various products. Utilizes various vendors for discounts, and large savings. Cardinal Office Supply is one of the designated vendors to use for money saving purchases. Employees have been advised to use vendors such as this for bulk purchases unless a specified reason is given to use another vendor. Madisonville Community College is Engaged in KCTCS vendor diversity program (utilize locally owned businesses when possible). Priority is given to local businesses.

Create annual budget allotting certain amounts of money to be utilized for various purchases. Budget is divided into divisions to allow Business Affairs to monitor the amount of funding each department may need for future fiscal years.

Use Enterprise for five rental vehicles. These vehicles have flex fuel and eco boost features making them more fuel efficient. Rental cars are utilized by employees mostly for long distance and out of state travel.

Continue to promote the benefits of Madisonville Community College to a diverse population. The Diversity Coordinator works to create events and programs suitable to meet the needs of these students. Various scholarships are available for students to assist with the costs of college tuition and books.

Work with the Insurance provider to promote a healthier lifestyle for employees and their families. Various vendors provide services and programs to help assist with becoming healther. The Nursing and Allied Health Divisions host an annual Wellness fair where employees can participate and have various tests run (blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, sugar levels, etc.).
