Green Office Certification Program (GOCP)

A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):

The Green Office Certification Program (GOCP) is an SDSU program created by the Office of Sustainability. Our purpose is to engage faculty and staff in sustainable practices within the office to promote a sustainable campus culture.

Hosting meetings with Green Office Program members to discuss their current sustainable practices and in what areas we can make sustainable improvements.


A brief description of the employee educators program’s target audience (1st program):

The GOCP is an SDSU program that rewards certificates to sustainable offices on campus that encourages faculty and staff to reduce participating offices’ negative environmental impact. The certification that an office receives (either bronze, silver, gold, or platinum) is based on its sustainability practices, which are evaluated through a self-assessment proctored by one of our student interns.

Campus Compost Pilot Program

A brief description of the employee educators program (2nd program):

The Campus Compost Pilot is a program created by the Office of Energy and Sustainability. This program offers composting services to offices on campus and educates about composting practices. Employees of the office are trained to pick up compost bins from the offices and dispose of them. Additionally, the employees provide support to the offices and an infographic about what can be composted.

The target audience of this program is all employees who have offices on campus and do not have access to composting services.

A brief description of all other employee peer-to-peer sustainability outreach and education programs:

Social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, website 3 hrs/week
These accounts provide information about our office and sustainability initiatives to a wider audience. We promote events, make educational posts, and inform faculty and staff about our office.

Green Labs 3 hrs/week
The Green Labs Assistant reaches out to professors, researchers, and department chairs to educate them about sustainable alternatives for lab equipment and facilitates certification of laboratories.

Tabling - avg 2hr/week
Engage in campus education including faculty and staff. OE&S and the Black Resource Center were able to collaborate as a result of a tabling event. Tabling promotes collaboration among departments.

STARS Report - 20-40 hrs/week
The AASHE STARS assistant conducts outreach to various departments and auxiliaries on campus, many of whom did not previously know about the report. They engage in education about the report and how to complete it.

Sustainability Hub Open House Event - 10 hrs
Event educating about campus sustainability and OE&S reaching 100+ people, majority faculty and staff.
