Does the institution hold major events related to sustainability, such as conferences, speaker series, or symposia, that have students as the intended audience?:
A brief description of the event(s):
October Events - Two students organized a "Teach-In for Sustainability" panel. This involved three professors and three students discussing Climate change and current legislation with an audience. US Senator Bill Nelson sent a representative to the talk who reported back to the Senator regarding the clean energy legislation support at Stetson.
February Events - Dr. Susan Solomon spoke to an audience about the evidence and impact of climate change. Dr. Solomon is a top climate scientist on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
March Events - The Environmental Sustainability Council organized a booth including Hatter Harvest vegetables. Another event occurred in which a vegetarian dinner was served with guest speaker Dr. Nick Stratis, and environmental economist.
April Events - For Earth Week several events were held including a tree planting, and environmentally themed displays, such as displays of environmental research by students, and games. Four students from a Religion and the Environment class organized a service outside with speakers Chaplain Fronk, and Karen Cole, director of the Gillespie Mineral Museum.
