A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :

All department and program chairs and directors at the university were contacted personally in two separate rounds and asked to provide information on their sustainability-related courses during the 2021-22 academic year. A summary document was created from this information and resubmitted to the chairs and program heads for confirmation that the information in the document was accurate. Department chairs and program directors were contacted again requesting review of their offerings and looking for more courses to include. A detailed list of all courses for the 21-22 academic year was generated and used to cross-check the list of sustainability courses in order to assure that they were actually offered in that year.

Both departments and programs were in included in both the total number and in the number offering sustainability coursework. Departments are those offering majors, programs are minors only. Several areas were left out of the the count due to the nature of their offerings (i.e. music, computer science, accounting, digital arts, theatre arts, data analytics, Business Flex, etc.) For Business, we counted 11 major-awarding departments and 4 minors not connected directly with a major department. For Arts & Sciences, there are 19 relevant majors and 6 independent minors.

All courses listed were offered in the 2021-22 academic year.
The following types of courses have been excluded in both the total count of courses as per online directions and suggestions by Chris Pelton:
-Individually-directed courses (Senior projects, independent study, practicum, etc.)
-Courses of four or fewer students
-Special topics courses (e.g., courses that address emerging issues or specialized content and that are not offered on an ongoing basis)
-Courses that are strictly practice-oriented, e.g.: voice or musical instrument lessons, art classes such as drawing, ceramics, etc., digital arts classes, theater performance, computer sciences classes such as programming, cyber security, beginning language classes without non-language content, etc.,
