Does the institution have a local offsets program through which the institution seeks to offset its greenhouse gas emissions by implementing projects that reduce GHG emissions in the local community?:
Yes

A brief description of the program:

Neutral Gator is an initiative of Earth Givers, a nonprofit focused on reducing carbon emissions through energy conservation, alternative energy development, and carbon sequestration projects. Neutral Gator is dedicated to eliminating Gainesville’s contribution to global climate change by supporting the University of Florida in reaching carbon neutrality by 2025 and by reducing the carbon emitted by the local community.

We kicked off this ambitious plan in 2008 by funding and implementing local carbon reduction projects. These projects generate carbon offsets that are applied toward the carbon footprint of the University of Florida (UF) Athletics’ season. In fact, Neutral Gator’s efforts have led to the country’s first carbon-neutral athletic program and the first carbon-neutral football season in NCAA history! The program has since expanded to offset some university travel, conferences/events, and other programs.
