Notre Dame's Hesburgh Libraries has an open access policy. Faculty are encouraged to deposit their works in CurateND, the institutional repository. ND Arts and Letters faculty are supported by ND Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts. (https://isla.nd.edu/faculty-funding/publication-grants/) The institute provides funds and support for copying, editing and publication subvention. Other faculty include a budget line item for financial support, often funded under their grant Facilities and Administrative Costs return. All faculty are supported by the ND Research staff who handle all contracts related to data and access as well as the ND librarians in their research and writing.

'Each faculty member grants The University of Notre Dame the right to archive preserve and make publicly available the full text of his or her scholarly articles through CurateND or the current institutional repository. This provides the University with a nonexclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license to preserve and provide open access to these works. When publisher agreements do not automatically grant permission to archive the final version, faculty members commit to negotiating for such rights. Faculty members will submit an electronic copy of the author’s final version in an appropriate format as soon as practical, respecting the possibility of the publisher’s or author’s requests for embargo.'
