A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
Student Government: The Mission of the Student Government is to ensure that UT Dallas is fully committed to serving the collective interests of the student body. In this capacity, we serve as the official student voice to UT Dallas administration, the UT System Board of Regents, and other governmental entities. The Student Government seeks to enhance spirit, protect University traditions, and support all students and student organizations in their academic and community-directed endeavors.
Academic Senate: The central policy-making body of the faculty is the Academic Senate. The Senate consists of not less than ten percent of the faculty, elected annually. The Senate-elect in turn elects the Speaker of the Faculty, the Secretary, and the Academic Council from among its members. The Senate operates mainly through a system of committees, appointed by the Senate on recommendation of the Senate Committee on Committees.
Staff Council: UT Dallas Staff Council is a team of staff members elected to represent the interests of campus staff by advocating on a variety of issues, addressing staff suggestions and serving in an advisory role to the University President. The council holds monthly general meetings, as well as staff engagement and appreciation events throughout the year. Staff Council also sponsors scholarships and awards to support and recognize UT Dallas’ outstanding staff members.

Meetings of the U. T. System Board of Regents are open to the public except for any posted executive session held in compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act. The open session portions of most meetings are webcast live. In accordance with the Texas Administrative Code Title 1, Part 10, Chapter 206, Subchapter C, regarding Accessibility and Usability of Institution of Higher Education Web sites and the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code, Chapter 551, persons interested in attending committee and/or Board meetings or viewing the webcast online and desiring communication or other special accommodations should contact the Board Office at least two working days prior to the meeting.
