The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We embrace, enhance and celebrate diversity at all levels through the efforts of faculty, staff, students, the executive leadership and community partnerships. The office regularly hosts workshops and events to foster a culturally-competent campus and has vast support services for underrepresented individuals as well as individuals looking to learn and support others.

Our department supports and enhances the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion’s communication infrastructure.

The Committee for the Support of Diversity and Equity:
A University-wide standing committee reporting directly to the President of the University of Texas at Dallas. The committee meets regularly to review and discuss issues that affect the institutional status, professional effectiveness and personal morale of women, minorities and members of other underrepresented groups in full and part-time faculty and staff positions. It is within the purview of this committee to recommend policy, carry out studies, conduct interviews and prepare reports. The committee meets with the president at the beginning and end of each academic year to receive special charges and reports from the administration and to convey to the administration ideas, concerns and advice from the committee that address the issues of eliminating institutional features which differentially and negatively affect women, minorities and members of other underrepresented groups.

The Diversity Advisory Council-
This council consists of prominent local leaders and industry partners including American Language Technologies, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Lennox International, Raytheon, DFW iRealty, Rockwell Collins, BB&T Bank, and other Dallas-area businesses who join together to offer advice and assistance to UT Dallas. Their role is to ensure the diversity's goals are strongly aligned with, and supported by, the greater Dallas community. The Council offers input on the University’s many diversity initiatives and provides a broader perspective on diversity issues as they relate to specific industries. We also have a student-led version of this.

The Multicultural Center Diversity Education staff along with the First Year Leaders and Living Learning Community Staff conduct diversity, equity and inclusion presentations targeting undergraduate first year students. In addition, the Galerstein Gender Center’s trainings include students, but the majority of participants are faculty and staff.

UT Dallas adheres to the UT System Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policy. The university has a variety of training programs and activities that promote and raise awareness of diversity in the workplace and the community for students, staff, and faculty.

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion hosts Diversity Awareness Training, Diversity Awards, Diversity Lecture Series, Disability Employment Awareness Seminar, and the AccessAbility Summit. They also focus on diversity during new employee orientation.

UTD’s Multicultural Center provides a variety of cultural programs, education resources, leadership opportunities and support services that enhance the ability of UT Dallas students to achieve success in their academics, personal and work lives. They host a Diversity Dialogue Series, Diversity Poetry Jam, Diversity 101 Online Learning Series and a Diversity Ambassador Program.

UTD’s Student Counseling Center offers a variety of outreach services to the University community with the goal of creating and maintaining a healthy, psychologically-minded student population. One Our programming is geared towards primary prevention of mental illness, enhancement of academic success, and personal and social empowerment through awareness and knowledge. The center also works to integrate multicultural and developmental perspectives into our programming to be more inclusive and relevant to all students.

The Eugene McDermott Library has in its collections a variety of books that help stimulate conversation on racial injustice, the history of racial issues in America and supply anti-racism training.

UT Dallas has a teach-in series called Dismantling Living Legacies of White Supremacy at UTD and Beyond with an active donation page. The teach-in series was launched on July 23, 2020 with a conversation about white supremacy and the structure and distribution of merit scholarships. An average of 50 faculty, students, staff, and community members attend these workshops held roughly every two weeks. Past and future sessions address police violence in Dallas, systemic racism, human rights, diversity in higher education, border policing and healing trauma through creative expression. Our teach-in series both enriches knowledge across the campus and provides an opportunity for marginalized members on campus to engage with programming that reflects their lived experiences.
