A brief description of steps taken to ensure that e-waste is recycled responsibly, workers’ basic safety is protected, and environmental standards are met:

The UTSA Surplus Property Department collects all University-owned electronic waste which includes computers, printers, monitors, and other electronic devices. Once collected, as mandated by Texas state law, these items are made available to Texas school districts or transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for its computer recovery program to be reused or recycled. These items are handled and disposed of safely and securely in such a way to ensure that none are sent to any unauthorized disposal facility or landfill.


A brief description of the electronic waste recycling program for institution-generated materials:

Surplus gathers all institution-generated materials and disposes of it through allowed disposal channels such transfers to Texas school districts or the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Computer Recovery Program. No e-waste is ever disposed of in landfills.

UTSA has no electronic waste recycling program for student-generated materials.
