The principles governing the UTSA Campus Master Plan include two principles directly addressing sustainability issues. These are:
- Principle 3: Green Reserve: The university will seek to protect its existing open spaces by adopting a permanent Green Reserve. The Greene Reserve is intended to remain free of major buildings and parking lots.
- Principle 11: Sustainability: The University will seek to improve the sustainability of the campus and its operations.
The Master Plan also includes a set of Sustainability Guidelines that offer specific recommendations on issues of Carbon Footprint, Campus Life, Transportation, Water Usage and Quality, Utilities, and Buildings.
