Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Semester BIke Rental

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

The Office of Sustainability, realizing a gap in active transportation, partnered with the Office of Outdoor Pursuits to provide access to bicycles for connectivity. The Recreation Center provided bicycle rentals to students on a 7-day weekly rental or recreation. Students without transportation did not have access to employment, recreation, culture or social engagement. UTSA Sustainability through a grant from TXDOT for air quality and congestion mitigation, purchased 20 bikes and 2 heavy duty bike racks for storage and Outdoor Pursuits provides staff and maintenance to rent these bikes on a semester rental period for the purposes of transportation and connectivity. Twenty-four percent of the applicants live on campus, twenty-two percent live within 1 mile of campus. 41% said they lived 1- 3 miles away and 12% said they lived more than 3 miles away. These statistics, and the rate the applications were received, demonstrate that growing this program would positively impact the student experience.
