A brief description of the institution’s third party certified land holdings:

Tree Campus USA, March 2015-present.
The U of U campus, including Red Butte Garden and Arboretum, is part of the State Arboretum of Utah. The main campus includes over 12,000 trees, all of which are catalogued in a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database created by Facilities Management. The U of U Campus Tree Committee, formed in Spring 2014, serves in an advisory capacity to the University of Utah’s Department of Campus Planning and the facility manager for landscape and open space. The University’s 12,000 tree inventory includes thirteen “Big Trees” designated by Utah Register of Big Trees. In addition, Red Butte Garden and Arboretum’s tree collection consists of 1,621 specimens, which includes 372 different species and cultivars/varieties of trees, and 137 hybrid oaks found in Cottam’s Grove.

Level II Accreditation
Red Butte Garden is one of the largest botanical gardens in the Intermountain West, and together with the University of Utah campus, makes up the State Arboretum of Utah. They are located on 100 acres in the foothills on the eastern edge of the University of Utah campus. The Garden has welcomed guests since 1985 and consists of over 21 acres of developed gardens and five miles of hiking trails winding through an extensive Natural Area. The Garden, which is community-funded, is renowned for its numerous plant collections, display gardens, more than 540,000 springtime blooming bulbs (including a vast collection of daffodils), gorgeous private event spaces, a world-class outdoor concert series, and award-winning horticulture-based educational programs.
