A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:

All incoming undergraduate students are greeted by Office of Sustainability staff and interns on move-in day. All new undergraduate students receive a reusable tote for recycling and information about Zipcar and Zimride.

In alternating years, orientation themes support sustainability topics. Most recently, in fall 2013, Joel Salatin -- a farmer who raises livestock using holistic management practices -- spoke to students about the importance of sustainable agriculture and eating locally produced food. Prior to the speaker's keynote, students researched food access in their own hometowns; following the presentation, all first-year students met with their advisers to discuss the implications of the presentation.
