Low Impact Design / Green Infrastructure Features:
• 81-space permeable parking lot (asphalt); 25,500 square feet
• (2) small bioretention areas in the lawn south of Henderson computer lab
• Native buffer restoration planting along east side of parking lot between lot and wetland
• Vegetated bioretention swale
• permeable interlocking concrete pavement (PICP) walkway along west side of the new parking lot
• Constructed wetland on the southeast side of the new parking lot, abutting the existing wetland

Extraordinary efforts went into the celebrated regional demonstration project to enhance a gravel parking lot on the campus. Through a competitive grant process that took three years to win, we were able to incorporate a suite of six distinct green infrastructure practices into the project, including a constructed wetland. Moreover, we included onsite educational signage, opportunities for educational tours for off campus guests and connections to the classroom and research. We are grateful to the NYS Energy Facilities Corporation for the funding that allowed this project to go forward in a robust and comprehensive way. Ongoing Operations & Maintenance of the native perennial plantings has proved a challenge, and extra staff resources have been devoted to maintaining this highly functional and practical campus educational resource.
