The Barnard Climate Action Committee, formerly the Sustainable Practices Committee is a tripartite committee involving students, faculty, and administrative staff to promote sustainable practices campus-wide and reduce the campus’ collective environmental footprint.
The committee is tasked to to involve and integrate the community into promoting sustainable practices, reducing our environmental footprint, building an equitable, just and circular campus, and encouraging the adoption of effective and efficient programs that demonstrate our commitment as a leader in the urban environmental landscape.
In 2023 a Senior Leadership Sustainability Steering Committee was formed. This committee meets to ensure sustainability planning is implemented at the highest level.

The Office of Sustainability and Climate Action works to address issues of sustainability on campus and works toward building building an equitable, just and circular campus. The office achieves this by implementing the goals outlined in the Climate Action Vision. They collaborate with campus committees, such as the Climate Action Committee, the Student Government Association Committee on Sustainability, as well as various academic and executive departments. They host events teaching and promoting sustainability on campus and create step-by-step plans for a sustainable vision.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
-Annual update of the Climate Action Vision Plan
-Built a scope 3 calculator and mapped out all emissions in this catagory from 2019
-Created a full circular economy framework called Circular Campus for the college, which focuses on reducing negative social and environmental impacts while supporting student access and affordibility. The framwork today covers waste diversion, design construction & deconstruction, green spaces, resuse & sustainable purchasing, and food & dining. Rheaply, and online asset exchange program has been implemented to increase reuse on campus.
-Created a circular economy sharing network for the local community, called Circular Communiy. International House, Interchurch, Riverside Church, Teacher's College, and Union Thological Seminary have all joined. Rheaply is a key component to this project.
-Hosted the first climate based citizen's assembly in the United States
-The Center for Engaged Pedagogy created the "Teaching Toward Sustainability Guide"
-Two new programs, were created - the Anthropology Political Ecology Track and Environmental Humanities Minor and Concentration
