A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):

Black Hills State University Counseling Center provides on-campus counseling to currently enrolled students. Services are provided by licensed professional counselors who assist students in a non-judgement, objective, confidential setting with their day-to-day concerns, problems, thoughts and feelings. There is no charge for counseling services for students currently registered at Black Hills State University.

ii. As part of the State Health Plan, employees and their dependents have access to the Employee Assistance Program, which provides confidential, professional support for personal and work concerns at no cost to the employee. It includes a variety of life areas, such as family, alcohol/drugs, anxiety, parenting, workplace, aging, depression, grief, relationships, abuse, and financial.

The institution’s smoke-free policy:

a. BHSU is Smoke & Tobacco Free as of August 1, 2014. This policy has been put
into place in order to protect and promote the health and comfort of our students,
employees and visitors.
b. This policy applies to University students, faculty, staff, visitors and vendors and
to all University property, regardless of location.
c. Smoking and the use of tobacco products and vapor products of any kind is
prohibited in any enclosed place, including but not limited to, all offices,
classrooms, hallways, community areas, performance venues, and residential
spaces within University housing.
d. Smoking, tobacco, and e-cigarettes use will only be allowed in personal vehicles
in parking lots on campus.
e. Ceremonial use exceptions to this policy must be approved in advance. The
smoke and tobacco-free policy may not apply to specific activities used in
connection with the practice of cultural or religious activities; all ceremonial use
exceptions must be approved in advance by the President or his/her designee.
f. Marijuana is illegal for all purposes in South Dakota and possession of any
amount is a criminal offense. Possession, use, manufacture, or distribution is
prohibited on University property.
