CNM has hired permanent, full-time employee, as Campus as a Living Lab and Sustainability Project Manager in MAY 2016. This is A BRAND NEW INITIATIVE; it is a brand new position created for CNM to grow it's sustainability programs. This position has never existed at the institution and will potentially (in time) grow into an "Office of Sustainability"
A brief description of any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation (if not reported above):
To assist in reducing waste, water and energy consumption (as outlined in the Climate Neutrality Plan https://www.cnm.edu/about/sustainability/documents/plan) and to assist faculty with increasing sustainability in the curriculum by 25% (strategic direction 2016-2020).https://www.cnm.edu/about/strategic-direction/student-success
This person does all the AASHE/STARS reporting and reporting to Second Nature.
This person analyses utility bills for consumption changes (never existed before).
This person has been speaking with purchasing to include more "sustainability language in contracts", which has already been approved and has been published in a recent construction RFP.
This person has already been speaking with health coordinators at the college about a wellness program.
Before this position was created, not one was in place to manage energy contracts, analyse bills, report STARS (was previously handled by an outside contractor), etc.
For all Campus as a Living Lab Projects, there is a curriculum tie that forces assessment that is reported to the CLL and Sust. PM.
This is a brand new position, but builds on previous Campus as a Living Lab innovative credit, since it has several added components, including Compost/Gardening and "water in the desert" educational series. CNM has "made significant advancements to a project or program that was previously submitted as an innovation". Therefore, we are resubmitting based on those advancements.
