The College was able to surpass the 75% Construction Waste Diversion requirement (as per LEED Requirements) by more than 16%. This was made possible through communicative efforts by the Project Manager with all of its subcontractors and the Construction Waste Hauler. We worked with a reputable Hauler who understood the stringent requirements of our Construction Waste Diversion protocol, and who had a history of complete compliance.
As part of our Contract procurement process, we included our formal Waste Diversion Plan in each of the Subs contracts, so that they are fully aware from the commencement of the project of their commitment and obligation towards achieving the highest possible Waste Diversion rate.
As part of our our agreement with the Waste Haulers and in accordance with the Logistics of our site, we were able to have Material-specific bins on site(for Concrete, Scrap Metal, Wood, and Mixed Waste) . This provides us with a higher diversion rate for each material by ensuring that the bin only consists of that sole material at the point of being trucked off site.
Working with our Waste Hauler, we were successfully able to Divert the following materials from landfill sites:
Wood
Concrete
Paint
Masonry
Metal
Gypsum
Plastic
Cardboard
Paper
Cans & Bottles (Mixed Recycling)
