Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Kean University Child Care and Development Center - Free care for eligible students & evening hours for working students/staff

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

One innovative feature of the Kean Child Care and Development Center (the Center) is that it is open for 12 hours a day from Monday to Thursday during the Fall and Spring semesters. The daytime session runs from Monday to Friday 7:45 to 5:00 pm and is for 2 ½ to 5 year olds.
The extended hours of the aftercare session allow students and staff to bring their 2 ½ to 12 year old to the Center between the hours of 4:15pm and 7:45pm so that they attend or teach a late afternoon or early evening class.
In addition, the CCC provides free grant funded child care for children of low-income Kean students at the University’s Child Care and Development Center on the Union campus. Up to 50 children whose parents meet eligibility requirements will be enrolled in the preschool per year, and 50 in after-school care. ccampis-brochure (kean.edu)
As an integral part of the Kean community, the Center also offers opportunities for students to observe and interact with the children to complete class assignments and provides the setting for ongoing research. Student employment opportunities are also available.
