Programs and Outreach Efforts
-Waste and recycling signage was developed. This signage explains what goes in which bin.
-A recycling game was created by the Office of Sustainability to engage students, staff, and faculty and teach them how to properly dispose of waste in an interactive way.
Nature of the Recycling System
The City of Edmonton has a single-stream recycling system, which means that all recyclables can be placed into one bin and are later sorted at the City of Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence (EWMCE). Having a single-stream system reduces barriers to recycling by making it easier for users. As well, the EWMCE sorts and separates all organics from the waste stream and composts the organic materials at their facilities.
A brief description of any food donation programs employed by the institution:
The Student Food Bank is a confidential service that works to help students struggling on a budget cut their grocery costs. It is operated by the Students' Association MacEwan University.
Each month students can access the Student Food Bank for a hamper of non-perishable food and a $20 Safeway gift card to purchase fresh items, like milk and fruit. Hampers are available in vegetarian or omnivore options, but vegans are welcome to claim the monthly gift card and a vegetarian hamper (re-donating items they cannot eat).

MacEwan University sends its waste and recycling to the City of Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence (EWMCE).
