The Sustainability Committee guides Selkirk College in the development, implementation and monitoring of initiatives that align with the sustainability commitments by developing a multiyear sustainability plan, formulating and implementing sustainability policies and procedures, identifying opportunities to reduce our overall carbon footprint and providing support to the Sustainability Coordinator and college administration on related matters. The Committee supports and encourages a variety of sustainability initiatives on all Selkirk campuses.

Sustainable Selkirk accomplishments over the past three years:
- Selkirk was the first post-secondary instiution in Canada to sign the SDG Accord, committing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals
- Selkirk has pledged to reach Net Zero by 2030
- Sustainability outreach events (Sweater Day, BC Cool Campus, Global Goals Week)
- Employed an intern during winter 2021 to assist with SDG Accord committments
- College's Fair Trade Campus Designation has been maintained across all campuses for since 2013
- A student-based Environment Club has been consistently active on Castlegar campus since September 2017
- Community connections within the region continue to increase
- A sustainability literacy assessment has been developed and administered to the entire student body
- Partnerships with students working on sustainability-related projects have increased (GIS, School of Environment, Peace Studies)

Reporting to the Campus Manager and in consultation with the Sustainability Committee, the Sustainability Coordinator/Liaison advises the college in undertaking activities to reduce the ecological footprint of the College by reducing waste, improving environmental conditions, finding cost savings and building social responsibility within all functions of the College.
